ASA family member achieves international recognition

In celebration of World Plumbing Day this past March 11, the International Water Sanitation Hygiene Foundation (IWSH) invited schoolchildren across the world to participate in its poster contest.

Each year, children are asked to submit posters based on a special theme. This year’s theme was to share the message that “Plumbing is Essential.”

As you might expect, there were many high-quality entries in the competition, and the winning drawings were creative, well executed and well linked to the World Plumbing Day theme.

ASA is so pleased to recognize one of the winners, Audrey McLeod, a third-grader from John Malcom Elementary School in Laguna Niguel, California.

Audrey is the daughter of Cambria McLeod, senior staff engineer at Kohler, an ASA Platinum Supplier Partner. Cambria is a valuable ASA volunteer in advocacy and codes and standards activities.

Audrey won second place in the contest for her creative poster showing the words “Plumbing is Essential” dripping from a faucet.

“I wanted to give the contest a try to see what could happen,” Audrey said. “I think plumbing is essential because it filters out the bad water to bring us clean water. Having clean water at home and at my school is naturally important because it keeps you safe, clean, healthy and hydrated. After all, more than half your body is made of water!”

Well said Audrey, and thank-you for reminding all of us how important our role in providing plumbing products to the marketplace is to public health.

The international poster contest is open to elementary/primary school students in grades 1-6. The winning poster creator will receive USD $100, with USD $1,000 going to his/her school. The second-place prize is USD $50/$500, and third place is USD $25/$250. To see the other poster winners you can visit the IWSH website at www.iwsh.org.
