From stolen data to system disruptions, cyberattacks can be devastating. But with the right knowledge, you can take action to safeguard your business and educate your team to help keep these threats at bay. Here are six cybersecurity strategies to consider:
Recognize phishing red flags
Phishing is a common method cyber criminals use to infiltrate businesses. Teach employees to identify suspicious emails by spotting generic greetings, poor grammar, misspellings or urgent requests for immediate action. Running phishing simulations can help your team learn to recognize these traps.
Enforce strong password policies
Weak passwords are an open invitation for hackers. Require employees to use complex, unique passwords for all accounts. Adding multi-factor authentication can create an extra barrier to enhance security.
Promote safe attachment practices
Remind employees never to open email attachments from unknown or unverified sources. When in doubt, verify the sender’s identity first.
Keep credentials confidential
Employees should understand the importance of protecting login credentials. Sharing passwords, even internally, can lead to serious breaches.
Limit the use of external devices
External devices like USB drives can introduce malware. Require approval for their use and implement endpoint protection software to reduce risks.
Mandate regular updates
Outdated systems and software can leave you vulnerable. Automate updates and encourage employees to back up data regularly to help ensure your defenses are up to date.
By taking these proactive steps, you can help protect your business and build awareness within your team. Reach out to your local Federated Insurance® marketing representative to learn more.
